If you wish you had straighter, better-aligned teeth, Power & Pryse Orthodontics can help. We offer a range of smile-improving services, including braces for adults.
How Much Do Braces Cost?
The cost of braces depends on a lot of factors, including the severity of your orthodontic issues and the type of braces you pick. Keep in mind that if you have dental insurance and didn’t have braces as a kid, you’ll likely get some coverage for braces. That said, you should always check your coverage limits before choosing a treatment. For an accurate estimate of your costs, schedule a free consultation with our doctors.
Am I Too Old for Braces?
You’re never too old for braces! The only real requirement is having teeth, bones, and gums that are healthy. Since adults are more prone to gum disease than kids, your doctor will want to make sure your mouth is in good shape before proceeding with any treatment plan.
Why Should Adults Get Braces?
There are a number of reasons why adults can benefit from braces. First, they’re a great way to correct bite misalignments, crowding, or shifting teeth. This means you can improve your self-esteem and finally have confidence in your smile. That said, it’s not all about cosmetics. Braces are ideal for helping shift teeth to a better position so your general dentist can offer you more ideal dental work. Finally, they can help improve your overall oral health by making your teeth and gums easier to clean.
What Type of Time Frame Am I Looking At?
Braces do take some time to correct your teeth — it won’t be an instant fix. The process begins at your initial consultation when one of our doctors will take a look at your smile. Then, we’ll create a personalized plan of care for your specific needs. We’ll walk you through all the steps so you’re comfortable with the process and know what to expect along the way.
When you first get your braces on, we use an indirect method to speed up the process and make sure they fit right. We’ll first fit the brackets to a model of your teeth, and then at your next appointment, this makes it easy to fit them to your mouth. We use fully digital scans which allow us to create a more accurate model of your smile, meaning better bracket placement, more efficient adjustments, and no messy mold impressions!
After that, you’ll probably need to come in every six to eight weeks for a checkup until it’s time to remove your braces.
How Long Do I Need Braces?
Most adults require braces for 18 to 22 months. That said, it all depends on your mouth’s condition. If you previously had braces and your teeth just shifted a bit, you might not need them for as long. But if you have severe bite issues or crooked teeth, you might need them for longer. We’ll let you know your estimated treatment length at your initial consultation.
What Type of Braces Should I Get?
We offer two types of braces at Power & Pryse Orthodontics — metal and clear. Metal braces are your conventional choice and work by cementing metal brackets on the front of every tooth. Wires loop through these brackets and are anchored in the back of your mouth to gently move your teeth into alignment over time.
Clear braces work the same as metal braces. The only difference is that the traditional metal brackets are replaced with a clear or tooth-colored ceramic, making them less noticeable.
